Venice Theater Festival (Biennale Teatro) will be held 22 Jul to 05 Aug 2019 in Venice, Italy. Venice Theater Festival (Biennale Teatro) is one of the oldest theater festivals in the world and has been bringing some of the most intriguing theatrical performances to Venice, Italy since 1934. When the festival first began, its program included bringing classic Venetian works like Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice to the public. Today, the festival’s program directors host leading artists, set designers, lighting creators, choreographers, and writers worldwide who produce theatrical performances for a diverse audience. The International Theater Festival in Venice also features free meetings, lectures, and theater workshops, involving both audiences and professionals in the dialogue of contemporary theater. Great guests will also be a point of reference for the younger generation of artists who will take part in College, the prestigious project of the Venice Theater Festival focuses on training. The Biennale College Theatre will play a leading role, as envisaged in the new mission adopted by the Venice Theatre Biennale, ready to invest in young people with training initiatives in all its areas of expertise. Venice Theater Festival (Biennale Teatro) is an event and I like events...
In its 44th edition, the International Theatre Festival, which will take place from July 26th to August 14th, will be characterized, like Dance, by the integration between the shows and the workshops. Directors, actors, playwrights will not only be the authors and stars of the featured productions, but will also participate in the Festival for its entire duration as teachers for the young artists selected for the Biennale College – Theatre. Venice and the Festival also become the place that offers residencies to a selection of companies to develop phases of their future works, a place that fosters debate between artists, scholars, and audiences of theatre lovers. Running parallel with the 10 productions in the programme will be 17 workshops, 9 of which will produce a performance open to the public, as will the residencies of 4 companies, which will open their experience to spectators; finally, the programme features 19 encounters with all of the artists participating in the Festival.
Biennale College is a project aimed at training young artists, conducted by the Dance, Music, Theatre and Cinema sectors of the Biennale di Venezia. To encourage young talents, offering them the opportunity to work side by side with the masters to develop “creations”: this is the spirit of the Biennale College, a well-fitted bridge that allows young people who wish to engage in one of the arts to do so under the finest conditions that an international institution can offer.
The programme requires participants to attend the workshops in the morning and through the early afternoon, the meetings with the Masters of the College in the late afternoon, and in the evening the performances presented at the 2019 Theatre Biennale and the open-doors events of the companies-in-residence and of the workshops underway at the time. The deadline for the submission of applications is June 5th, 2019.
