IDEA:
The craft trades, fine arts and design are becoming increasingly intertwined, the boundaries between them have become fluid. «Handwerk & Design» at Internationale Handwerksmesse appropriately reflects this development: in Hall B1, the trade fairs traditional areas of expertise, the craft trades and fine arts, are supplemented with the field of design. Craft skill and good design, a highly effective and inspiring combination.
CLARITY:
Even though the boundaries between them are fluid and there is a mutual exchange, the terms can be clearly defined: the craft trades stand for production-oriented activity, the fine arts stand for design-oriented activity with artistic ambitions, and design is artistic activity with an eye to industrial production. In each of these areas «Handwerk & Design» reflects a high level of expertise. OPENNESS
Those in the arts, crafts and design fields provide each other with mutual enrichment. By opening its doors to designers, «Handwerk & Design» does justice to this trend: developments and innovations in art and design are thus given broader coverage, opening up unexpected new ideas and possibilities for networking.
CONCEPT:
«Handwerk & Design» presents skilled craftsmanship, first-class fine arts and expert design, but it also offers a platform to those with a design orientation who cross between these areas. Particular value is attached to the co-operation with a number of technical colleges who contribute to making the link between crafts, fine arts and design visible, tangible and comprehensible.
KALEIDOSCOPE:
With the participation of various German arts and crafts associations and the World Craft Councils, «Handwerk & Design» shows contemporary crafts, jewellery, applied art and design as well as individual fashion. The highlights are the special shows EXEMPLA*, TALENTE*, SCHMUCK** and MEISTER DER MODERNE*.
