London Documentary Festival (LIDF) will be held 12 Jun 2019 in London, England. London Documentary Festival (LIDF) is the UK’s largest independent documentary festival providing a platform for radical and groundbreaking output from around the globe. The LIDF has been chosen as a qualifying film festival by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Recipients of the festival’s prize in the Documentary Short Subject category will now qualify for consideration at the Annual Academy Awards (OSCAR) without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules. The LIDF believes that film is a powerful tool for connecting people, for creating debate, for stirring empathy, compassion and ultimately action. As such the festival exists as a part of the public sphere of dialogue and interaction, not just a film festival, but a festival of ideas. Four days of eclectic, international documentary films by emerging talent, as well as established filmmakers. Venues include, The Soho Hotel, The Proud Archivist, and Close-Up.
Awards go to ‘Best Film’, ‘Best Short Film (40 mins and under)’, ‘Film for Social Change Award, ‘A Conversation in Film Award’ and ‘Audience Award’.
