Festival Images will be held 05 to 27 Sep 2020 in Vevey, Switzerland. Festival Images is Switzerland’s first open‐air photography festival for visual arts and the main Festival of its kind in Europe. Every two years it produces unprecedented monumental photography exhibitions in the streets of Vevey; it also offers many exhibitions in various Venues throughout the region devoted to image and displays the winning work from the Competitions that it organises: the International Photography Award. Festival Images is completely free and meets its political administrative label‘ Vevey town of images’ quite literally. Vevey becomes a true open air museum and a valuable platform for Swiss and international artists for three weeks. Festival Images stands out from other similar events for several reasons. Firstly, rather than purely presenting existing series, it collaborates with the artists to present exclusive projects tailor‐made by and for the Festival. In the same vein, it also explores ways of reinterpreting existing works and presenting them in public areas, often in a monumental format. Favouring interaction, it promises visitors a real photographic experience in a big way! Festival Images presents photography in the broad sense, like a key player in a broader field, That of the visual arts in general. Festival Images is an event and I like events...
The Quai1 gallery is the result of a close collaboration between the Culture departement of Vevey and the Festival Images. This exhibition space enables to build links between its two biennial events: The Festival Images (even years) and the International Photo Award (odd years).
It offers five exhibition per year, all selected from the vast repertoire of the International Photo Award, one of the most important photography competition in Europe.
If the Festival Images takes place the even years, the Fondation Vevey ville d’images allocated every other year creation support grants of more than CHF 70’000 for photographic projects; the Vevey International Photography Award is one of the biggest and oldest prize in Europe: CHF 40’000.- (38’000 €).
It attracts more than 800 candidates from the whole world for each of its editions.
