Happy Fourth if July! It’s also plastic free July. @surfridersandiego ・・・ It’s Plastic Free July (!), a global movement that encourages - and challenges- millions of people to be part of the solution to plastic pollution.⠀⁣ ⠀⁣ People in over 177 countries participate, but there is definitely some poetic justice (or injustice?) that this global effort coincides with the July 4 holiday here in the U.S. Why? Because the mess left behind from our Independence Day celebrations - whether at our beaches, our parks, or in our backyards - underscores the disastrous consequences that our reliance on single-use plastics wreaks on the coastal environment.⠀⁣ ⠀⁣ A great starting point to join Plastic Free July is to celebrate July 4 sustainably. Opt for long-lasting reusables and refuse single-use plastics!⠀⁣ ⠀⁣ If you’d like to see a clear snapshot of the global plastic pollution crisis right here at home, join our #SurfriderSoloCleanup effort this Sunday, July 5 to clean up the July 4 mess!
