Inspired by his time documenting protests at the Standing Rock Reservation in 2016, photographer Josué Rivas’s new project explores immigration, identity and the Indigenous diaspora in America.
A core component of the process for Josué’s “Standing Strong” project is that the individual being represented in the portrait gets to select the image that they feel best represents them. Here Josué and Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a Colorado-born Indigenous environmentalist and hip-hop artist, select his image, while Director Patrick Moreau, of Muse Storytelling, captures the process on film.
