#ElaineCameronWeir’s materials may surprise you. In ‘strings that show the wind’, the Canadian sculptor’s first solo show in New York, the works incorporate polished fluorite stone, rawhide, neon, candles, concrete fabric, and large microscope lenses (created by the artist’s father using glass repurposed from the home he grew up in). Six distinct sculptures, organized in pairs, populate the space, whose floor is tiled over with stainless-steel plates. Imagined as a kind of cohesive installation, the exhibition is an exploration of an ‘aesthetic of utility and function,’ according to JTT gallery owner, Jasmin Tsou. ‘Elaine Cameron-Weir: strings that show the wind’ at @JTT NYC (through October 27) is featured in our roundup of 8 shows not to miss in NYC this month.
