South African photographer Daylin Paul's “Broken Land” chronicles Mpumalanga, one of South Africa’s nine provinces, which is home to 46% of the country’s arable soil—but also nine active coal stations that spew out poisonous pollution on a daily basis. His book and exhibition explore the direct impact of coal stations on the local economy and population in his country, chronicling the local devastation, but also highlighting the global issue.
