‘THE UNFORSEEN MAKES HEARTS DANCE THE MORE’ reads #AugustodeCampos’ 2017 work, ‘O Inesperado (preto)’, created by the Brazilian artist at age 86. 61 years earlier, in 1956, de Campos cofounded the Concrete Poetry movement as an artistic project that aimed to revitalize and update poetical language. Later, as a reaction to the grave changes experienced in Brazil with the Military Coup of 1964, de Campos’ production became more politicized. That same year, he began his ‘popcretes’ series, where Bauhaus typography gave space to typography from newspapers and magazines. Still working today, Campos’ more recent pieces attest to his career-long standing as one of Brazil’s most celebrated contemporary authors. — Augusto de Campos, ‘O Inesperado (preto)’ (2017) will be presented by São Paulo's @LucianaBritoGaleria alongside a ‘popcrete’ from 1966, at this year’s edition of #ArtBaselMiamiBeach. #artbasel
