You know it’s a #FranzAckermann when ‘pulses of color that resemble computer graphics are interrupted by drawn perspectives; broken images of buildings and city squares judder across storms of energetic random marks,’ as British art critic Jonathan Jones aptly described the artist’s work in the @Guardian. Ackermann is consumed by wanderlust, and the notions of travel as an experience, displacement, and observation are at the heart of his practice. Referred to ‘Mental Maps’, his works are made partly during his excursions, and partly in his studio, based on memories and interpretations of his experiences.
