Venture down Sturt St, Ballarat during the biennale to find Taysir Batniji’s significant work Watchtowers, appearing as part of our 2019 Outdoor Program. The Palestinian artist became inspired by the likeness between the Becher water towers and Israeli watchtowers. Batniji began a typology of watchtowers on the West Bank, in which the perilous conditions of war manifest through the fraught images. See Batniji’s significant artwork Watchtowers on Sturt Street, between Lydiard and Armstrong, from August 24th. [Image Credit: Taysir Batniji, Watchtowers, 2008.
