We at Ballarat International Foto Biennale are proud to platform Laia Abril’s multidisciplinary exhibition ‘A History of Misogyny, Chapter One: On Abortion’.
Abril documents and conceptualises the ethics, stigmas, and taboos concerning this topic; exploring the social factors that impact reproductive choice and bodily rights.
Abril’s work delves deep into its subject; investigating issues such as policy and social coercion locking people out of sexual healthcare, deaths caused by illegal or unsafe procedures, and vulnerable parents pressured to carry unwanted pregnancies to term.
This exhibition has received critical acclaim in both Spain and France, and now makes its debut on Australian shores at BIFB; opening August 24th at the National Centre For Photography.
