⚙️ The words muscular, seductive, and pleasantly strange have all been used to describe #FriedaToranzoJaeger’s paintings – some of which are comprised of several canvases. The much talked about Mexican artist, who recently completed her MFA at the Kunstakademie Hamburg, pirates the arch-image of modern masculinity – the car as power fantasy and commodity fetish – abstracting, isolating, and rearranging the engines, window shields and steering wheels on the canvas. In doing so, Toranzo Jaeger erases the car’s traditional gender coding and creates multi-panel constructions that twist conventional assignations and signifiers of the sexes. — Frieda Toranzo Jaeger (@priupit), ‘autofelatio’, 2018, an oil on canvas painting with steel structure and hardware via @GalerieBarbaraWeiss | Galleries 2019 #artbasel2019 #artbasel
