‘Art is about having the freedom and the space to do whatever you want,’ says #DavidRenggli, a Swiss artist who’s no stranger to using unexpected materials – from agricultural rope to straw cast in bronze – to create his humorous and poetic works. ‘Desire Painting (Mardillo Beach)’ (2019), presented by @GaleriePeterKilchmann at #ArtBasel2019 (pictured above), is from @David.Renggli’s series of ‘Desire Paintings’ inspired by a drive through the Swiss countryside. ‘I saw this meshed rope material that farmers use in their fields to trap moisture for plants,’ he says. ‘It resembled a blow-up of a canvas, so I started to work with the idea of the mesh as a canvas.’ #artbasel
