PROLOGUE: What is the value that an image acquires past a crisis? To follow, the sixth chapter of “A WORLD OF IMAGES, THE IMAGES OF THE WORLD”, a visual itinerary envisioned by @caro16caro and @a legenissel through some of the works presented at #LOOPFair 2019, or a fragmented narrative to make sense of this time. CHAPTER 6: Can the unity of a political institution be questioned exactly when it is most needed? What happens to economic, social and cultural value-sharing in a time of crisis? Already in peril for some time, the concept of a federal Europe seems far ahead, after the quarantine brought back some imperial imbalances within the continent. VISUAL APPENDIX: Presented at #LOOPFair 2019 by Osnova Gallery @osnovagallery (Moscow), the video ‘This Certifies That’ (2016) by Yelena Popova @yelena popova resonates with some of these concepts. A computer generates real time images that evoke Euro’s banknotes. The elements that make up the image constantly shift until the whole sequence crashes, and then rebuilds itself. The visual stream is accompanied by an algorithm-like soundtrack, which the artist developed in collaboration with Rebecca Lee following Cornelius Cardew’s music experiments. #LOOPBarcelona #aworldofimages #theimagesoftheworld #throwbackseries #artfair #videoartfair #movingimage #storytelling #yelenapopova #osnovagallery #euro #federaleurope #banknotes federalism #algorthmicmusic
