PROLOGUE: What is the value that an image acquires past a crisis? To follow, the third chapter of “A WORLD OF IMAGES, THE IMAGES OF THE WORLD”, a visual itinerary envisioned by @caro16caro and @a legenissel through some of the works presented at #LOOPFair 2019, or a fragmented narrative to make sense of this time. CHAPTER 3: How can dance be a determining factor in the construction of one’s identity? What can a body moving to music tell about someone’s own culture? We are all familiar with the scenes of people dancing, shaking their bodies and twisting on the balconies of our confined houses, as a way to look for liberation, find a sense of unity or recognition in the moves of a neighbour. VISUAL APPENDIX: Presented at #LOOPFair 2019 by @angelsbarcelona (Barcelona), the video ‘Lightning Dance’ (2018) by Cecilia Bengolea @ceciliabengolea features several young Jamaicans who, in company of the artist, perform solo and group dance routines next to a roadside shack, while heavy rain falls. As the dancers take center stage, their movements refer to popular Jamaican Dancehall, a highly sexualized dance style, which Cecilia Bengolea sees as infused with magical healing powers. By dissolving the boundaries between nature and the human, Lightning Dance captivates the viewer to the point to the channelling of life through movement and light. An excerpt of the video is available on the TBA21’s profile on Vimeo. @tba 21 More information on our website —> Link in bio. #LOOPBarcelona #aworldofimages #theimagesoftheworld #throwbackseries #artfair #videoartfair #movingimage #storytelling #ceciliabengolea #angelsbarcelona #dance #lightningdance bodydance vibrations #dancemoves
