John Gollings here and I’m taking over this Instagram account for the next weeks.
I’m a photographer with a virus postponed exhibition. I have 67 works in bubble wrap since late March. In lieu of my opening at Australian Galleries you’ll see some of them here. I’ll also be posting a few images from my recent exhibitions; Heide ‘Spirit of Place’, McClelland Gallery, ‘Aftermath’ and Monash Gallery of Art ‘The History of the Built World’.
My most recent exhibition, Then and Now, is in three parts. ‘Archive’, 35 works including some taken as a teenage photographer, ‘Explore’, a selection of images from my ten year project looking at the European destruction of the Indigenous landscape and Escape, new photographs exploring focus as a photographic artifact.
These first images are from my archive and are some of my earliest architectural photography whilst unconstrained by commercial assignments. These were shot in 1978 and 1979 as I explored the diversity of established and new housing in Melbourne. 1 and 2 are from the new northern outer suburb estates under construction. 3 and 4 are from the well established comfort of Kew.
A print of ‘Untitled (man and dog), 1979, is in the AGNSW collection.
