Sarah Lucas has been satirizing British culture, sexuality, and gender stereotypes since the early 1990s. Spanning sculpture, photography, and installation, her work has consistently been characterized by irreverent humor and the use of everyday ‘readymade’ objects – furniture, food, tabloid newspapers, tights, toilets, cigarettes – to conjure corporeal fragments. In her 2019 sculpture ‘Cross Doris,’ the body remains Lucas’s prevailing subject.
