Inaugurating the gal

Inaugurating the gallery's third location in Berlin, Andre Butzer's solo show opened at @GalerieMaxHetzler's new street level space at Bleibtreustraße 15/16 this past Friday. — Since 2018, André Butzer has resided in California. His paintings virtually reinvent themselves featuring everyday items, places and activities from which the mosaic of an American experience gradually forms itself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Central to the exhibition are five recent paintings and one work on paper titled ‘English Muffins’ (pictured above). In its visual abundance, the painting is just as overwhelming as it is ravishing. Butzer keeps what is abstract and what is corporeal, what disintegrates and what assembles in a precarious balance. His work reveals all the polar opposites to be one whole and realize a coherent conjunction of colors, lines, planes, and figuration. —
