Manet’s famous ‘Luncheon on the Grass’ gets a timely update in Dalian Sung’s appropriately-titled painting ‘Manet.Manet’. In a similar fashion to the Surrealists, Sung toys with the viewer’s imagination by introducing unsettling elements to his limpid compositions. Despite being painted in 2017, the figures, socializing at a distance with faces fully-covered, find new meaning in today’s world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This work and 9 others comprise @Hunsand Space’s solo exhibition of the Chinese artist (b. 1971), accessible via our Online Viewing Rooms. — #artbaselOVR remains live until March 25th.
