Where does politics end and art begin?

Siah Armajani’s ‘Prophet Ali’ (1963), presented in @rossiandrossi’s Online Viewing Room, was produced using a religious poster acquired in southern Tehran, the year after the artist left his native country for the US. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Key to this work is the inscription of 1963 on the figure's forehead, as it addresses the time between Iran’s 1953 coup and 1979 revolution. It was that year that Ayatollah Khomeini gave a landmark speech against the shah, which contributed to fuelling mass protests across the country, including southern Tehran.
