Nuits sonores 2020: Teams standing united and solidarity with the cultural sector
Following the recent announcements on the coronavirus epidemic by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health – which imposed a ban last Thursday on all gatherings of over 5,000 people until 15 April, a restriction extended on Sunday to encompass events involving 1,000 people or more throughout the country – the Arty Farty team wishes to take this opportunity to confirm that we will do everything within our power to avoid having to cancel the 2020 edition of Nuits sonores (to be held a month after the scheduled completion of the ban, from 19 to 24 May 2020). To that end, we are working in consultation with the local authorities to identify any necessary alterations to ensure that the event goes ahead.
Guaranteeing the health and safety of all festival-goers, partners, event teams and professionals in attendance, while upholding the spirit of responsibility and solidarity with all our fellow citizens in France and across Europe, will remain our number one priority.
The main concern for event teams and their partners is naturally to ensure the survival of the festival and the many jobs that depend on it.
The European cultural sector is bracing itself for the repercussions of the disruption caused by the coronavirus epidemic over the coming weeks and months. The situation of those who work in the associative and independent sectors, already used to putting up with a chronically fragile economic climate, will become yet more vulnerable.
Everyone here at Arty Farty and Nuits Sonores wishes to express our full solidarity with all our fellow festivals, concert venues and the broader cultural sector, and to call on all teams, partners and festival-goers to rally round and remain united in defence of our shared spaces for culture, music and freedom.
