‘Unconventional’ best describes LA-based artist and Internet whiz Parker Ito's (@creamydreamy) studio practice utilizing photography, painting and printmaking techniques. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In ‘My Glasses’, ‘Pink Corner’, and ‘My Necklace’ (all 2019), his new works shown in the @MGMresortsintl's Lounge at #ArtBaselMiamiBeach, the Japanese-American artist reimagines traditional still-lifes from the Dutch vanitas period. Exhibiting the qualities of objects found in these works, Ito’s selection of foregrounded objects function as metaphorical imagery both for the human experience and his own. The compositions flourish and fade, much like the decomposing flowers and other organic objects regularly featured in historical still lives. To make the paintings, Ito photographs arrangements of objects in a living room-like setting with the use of a vintage digital camera. From these images, he uses a transfer method he established to transform these image-based works into large-scale paintings within the studio, resembling an updated version of the solvent transfers pioneered by Robert Rauschenberg in the 50s & 60s. #MGMArtCulture #artbasel #stillife #flowerart #stillifepainting — Images courtesy the Artist and @ChateauShatto. Photo by Ed Mumford.
