Artists are often likened to inventors or scientists, and in the case of @Max Hooper Schneider, the comparison is more than metaphoric.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
‘Formally trained in biology and landscape architecture, Hooper Schneider’s knowledge of material technologies and biological systems seeps into his large-scale sculptures and installations. Using aquariums, terrariums, and vitrines to display mutated habitats of flora and fauna tangled around neon lights, his practice combines the artificial and the natural with a flair for the theatrical and surreal. These organic ready-mades conjure up visions of a posthuman world attempting to rebuild itself after an anthropogenic apocalypse, challenging viewers to reevaluate their assumed central place in the ecosystem,’ writes @artsy.
