Manchester International Festival (MIF) will be held 04 to 21 Jul 2019 in Manchester, England. Manchester International Festival (MIF) is the world’s first festival of original, new work and special events and takes place biennially, in Manchester, UK. The Festival launched in 2007 as an artist-led, commissioning Festival presenting new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture. The fame and innovation continues with the Manchester International Festival, the world’s preeminent festival displaying exclusively original and reimagined work and special events. You will like the immersive nature of this festival that has its way with rough-and-tumble Manchester for more than half of July every two years. This is the kind of festival where you’re likely to meet fascinating, cultured folks from all over the world. Manchester International Festival (MIF) is an event and I like events...
MIF is delivering world-class commissioned works in all areas of the arts: music, film, theater, visual arts, dance, and comedy. With this in mind, leading artists from across the cultural spectrum come to Manchester to create more than 20 world premieres and special events. Just about everything you’ll see at MIF is exclusive to the UK, though many of the shows will go on to travel the world after making their debuts in Manchester.
International Artists. Local People. Extraordinary Experiences.
Each Festival, MIF commissions a series of leading artists or thinkers to create ambitious new work in partnership with local people. These commissions, called MIF Creative, sit at the heart of the Festival, and share MIF’s principles of innovation, originality and internationalism, whilst offering unique opportunities for residents to engage with MIF in different ways.
With such impressive beginnings, it’s no surprise that MIF continues to draw top-tier acts from around the world. From the godmother of performance art Marina Abramović staging a full-scale biographic opera to Snoop Dogg performing his seminal albu in its entirety, MIF runs the gamut of culture, from highbrow to pop to experimental.
Set up camp at Festival Square Eat at the Café, relax with a cocktail at the swanky Glass House, or catch a DJ set at the Pavillion Theatre…this is the heart of MIF.
Bring the family While most of the top billed performances probably aren’t suitable for little ones, there are plenty of family-friendly events, including some first-rate children’s theater.
