Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 will be held 18 Aug to 17 Sep 2022 in Hangzhou, China. Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 is a pan-Asian multi-sport event scheduled to be held in Indonesia. For the first time, the Asian Games are being co-hosted in two cities; the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, and Palembang, the capital of the Indonesian province of South Sumatra, with Jakarta hosting the Games for the second time since 1962. Events will be held in and around the two cities, including venues in the provinces of Banten and West Java which surround Jakarta. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held in Jakarta. Hanoi, Vietnam was originally chosen as the host but withdrew due to financial considerations.[ As the Asiad's top venue — hosting football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and archery — the 55-year-old Gelora Bung Karno will be under intense scrutiny. But despite the fast-approaching deadline, the man responsible for upgrading the complex's main stadium, Wikrama Wardana, recently told AFP there was still plenty of time to complete the job. "We are going to do our best to finish it within the timeframe. Once the contract has ended, there will be enough time to prepare for the Asian Games more thoroughly," Wardana said at the arena. Indonesia has faced a race against time to be ready for the 18th Asian Games after original hosts Vietnam withdrew in 2014 due to financial problems, meaning the country has only had four years to prepare instead of the usual six. Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 is an event and I like events...

About Jakarta

JAKARTA is the capital of Indonesia. It constitutes a 1st level subdivision of the same rank as the provinces under the name of special territory of the capital Jakarta, in Indonesian Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta. Anglophones familiarly call her "The Big Durian".

Located at the northwestern tip of Java Island, it is crossed by the Ciliwung River that flows into Jakarta Bay. An important center of the Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms of Sunda and then of Pajajaran under the name of Kalapa, it became Jayakarta in 1527 after its conquest by the Sultanate of Banten. The Dutch renamed it Batavia in 1619 and made it the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies. On August 17, 1945, Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta proclaimed the independence of Indonesia, the city then takes the name of Jakarta - which in colonial times remained in toponymy, as indicated by the name of a road, Jacatraweg, "Jacatra Road" - and becomes the capital at the end of the 1949 war of independence.

Jakarta is a global city, the inner city covers an area of 664 km2 with a population of 9,756,944 in 20125 while the conurbation called Jabodetabek, which also includes the neighboring towns of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi, exceeded 28 million inhabitants in 2010, making it the second most populous metropolis in the world just behind Tokyo. Jakarta is home to the Indonesia Stock Exchange and the General Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The port of Tanjung Priok and the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Asia's third airport, complete the city's connection to major global networks.

  About Palembang

Palembang is the second-largest city on Sumatra island after Medan and the capital city of the South Sumatra province in Indonesia. It is one of the oldest cities in the Malay Archipelago and Southeast Asia. Palembang is located on the Musi River banks on the east coast of southern Sumatra, with a land area of 369.22 square kilometres (142.56 square miles) and a population of 1,708,413 people (2014). Palembang is the ninth-largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Bekasi, Medan, Tangerang, Depok and Semarang, and the nineteenth-largest city in Southeast Asia. Its built-up (or metro) area with Talang Kelapa and Rambutan was home to 1,620,429 inhabitants at the 2010 census.

Palembang is the oldest city in Indonesia, and has a history of being the capital city of the Kingdom of Srivijaya, a powerful Malay kingdom, which influenced many areas in Southeast Asia. The earliest evidence of its existence dates from the 7th century; a Chinese monk, Yijing, wrote that he visited Srivijaya in the year 671 for 6 months. The first inscription in which the name Srivijaya appears also dates from the 7th century, namely the Kedukan Bukit Inscription around Palembang in Sumatra, dated 683.

Palembang's main landmarks include Ampera Bridge and Musi River, the latter of which divides the city into two. The north bank of river in Palembang is known as Seberang Ilir and the south bank of the river in Palembang is known as Seberang Ulu. This city was known as a host city for 2011 Southeast Asian Games. Additionally, 2022 Asian Games is going to be held in the city along with Jakarta.
