Biennale Musica will be held 27 Sep to 06 Oct 2019 in Venice, Italy. Biennale Musica is Venice Biennale's International Festival of Contemporary Music. It was established in 1930 and was the first festival to run alongside the International Art Exhibition, that had characterized the birth of the Biennale back in 1895. Over the years, the Festival presented world premieres by Strawinsky, Prokofiev and Nono, and its tradition is renewed today under the directorship of Ivan Fedele. Through the International Festival of Contemporary Music, the Venice Biennale stresses its central role in the panorama of music today. Since 1930, the Festival has featured new compositions, European and world premieres, great orchestras and prestigious ensembles and soloists, confirming the Festival’s vocation for research and the attention to new trends. A long-standing tradition and a strong planning attitude are part of the Festival’s history. Biennale Musica is an event and I like events...
60th International Festival of Contemporary Music will feature 26 concerts, including 46 world premieres, 27 new works for Italy and 25 commissioned works: these include pieces commissioned to Kaija Saariaho, Pascal Dusapin, and Salvatore Sciarrino, who will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. For the first time, a few DJ-sets will be commissioned to musicians from the digital scene.
