Why Istanbul Design Biennial 2020?
Turkey's growing role as an economic, political and cultural center has highlighted the importance of innovation and design and encouraged the development of creative industries, particularly in the multicultural metropolis of Istanbul. One of the Biennial’s primary objectives, therefore, is to celebrate this creative potential and share it with the international audience in the belief that diverse perspectives and the distinctive design discourse of Istanbul will enrich the global design culture.
Last edition of Istanbul Design Biennial:
The 2nd Istanbul Design Biennial, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), titled The Future Is Not What It Used To Be and curated by Zoë Ryan, ended on Sunday, 14 December 2014. Since opening on 1 November, the six-week long and free-of-charge event hosted over 100.000 visitors at the biennial hub at the Galata Greek Primary School, at the event space at Antrepo 7, and at pop-up venues throughout the city.
The youth and children’s workshops, titled EKO Tasarım, were organised by Informel Eğitim – çocukistanbul every day throughout the biennial. The programme had different contents for different age groups and was open to students during the weekdays and to children and youngsters together with their parents on weekends. As part of the workshops, approximately 3.500 students and 56 schools visited the biennial.
