 Los Angeles is a city that constantly reinvents itself by answering the question, “what is next?” Everywhere you look, LA offers something new: revitalized neighborhoods, the fastest-growing mass transit system in the country, new airport terminals upgraded by a $12 billion renovation, world-class cultural attractions, and state-of-the-art sports venues.

 Over the last 30 years, LA has built a series of new venues and public spaces, providing for a rich array of venue choices that are experienced in hosting world-class events. Ninety-seven percent of the venues in the LA 2028 Games Concept either exist, are already planned as permanent venues by private investors, or will be temporary facilities.

 Our Olympic Games heritage is a source of pride for Angelenos. The LA84 Foundation, the philanthropic legacy organization from 1984, has introduced more than 3 million children to Olympic and Paralympic sport over the last 30 years, trained 75,000 coaches, and invested $225 million in 2,200 community-based youth sports programs.

 And our diverse community of Angelenos is united in its passion for the Games and desire to see them returned to the United States. The Los Angeles area is home to more than 18 million people representing the people and cultures of the world, and 83% of Angelenos are united in their desire to host the Games. A Los Angeles Games is not just a celebration of our diversity, it’s also a celebration of our unity – just like the Olympic Games movement itself.

HOW IS SECURITY COVERED AND WHO PAYS FOR IT?

Los Angeles is the world’s stage for successfully hosting major international events. From world championships in premier sports to the annual Academy Awards, Grammys and Emmys, Los Angeles’ experience with developing and executing robust security plans ranks among the top of all international cities. 

Just as the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, LA 2028 anticipates that the federal government will lead security for the Games and provide needed resources. LA 2028 expects to be designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE). LAPD will sit at the top of a unified command model, with the United States Secret Service the lead federal agency in charge of event security; the FBI will lead on intelligence and counter terrorism; and FEMA will lead on incident response management.
