LA 2028 will be held 21 Jul to 06 Aug 2028 in Los Angeles, United States of America. LA 2028 officially known as the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad, and commonly known as LA 2028/Los Angeles 2028, is a forthcoming international multi-sport event, which will be hosted in the city of Los Angeles, California, United States between July 21 and August 6, 2028. Bidding for the host city was originally scheduled to begin in 2019 with the winning bid scheduled to be announced in 2021. However, following difficulties with cities withdrawing in the bidding process for the 2022 Winter[1] and 2024 Summer Olympics, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided in July 2017 to jointly award both the 2024 and 2028 Games. On July 31, 2017, an agreement was announced that Los Angeles would bid for the 2028 Games with $1.8 billion of additional funding from the IOC, which opened Paris up to be confirmed as host of the 2024 Games. Both cities were announced as winners of their respective games at the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru, on September 13, 2017. This will be the fifth Summer Games to be hosted in the United States, and the third in Los Angeles following St. Louis 1904, Los Angeles 1932, Los Angeles 1984 and Atlanta 1996. Los Angeles will also become the third city after London (1908, 1948 and 2012) and Paris (1900, 1924 and 2024) to host the Olympic Games three times. LA 2028 is an event and I like events...
Los Angeles loves the Games and continues to benefit from the legacies of the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games.
The spirit of Los Angeles and indeed all of California is our optimism, creativity, and curiosity, which we use everyday to reimagine the future. With our sunny weather, there’s no stronger metaphor for LA’s ethos of reinvention than the sun itself, rising and falling every day offering the promise of a better tomorrow.
Follow the Sun is the perfect expression of our vision. LA 2028 is creating a transformative Games utilizing our city’s ideal climate, its unparalleled culture of creativity and innovation, and its youthful energy to reimagine a Games that:
Delivers the ultimate personalized experience for the athletes
The Olympic and Paralympic Games are the ultimate opportunity to inspire healthy living through sports and bring our diverse populations and neighborhoods together.
By following the sun, LA 2028 is reimagining a new Olympic Games for a new Olympic era.
As a global leader in sports entertainment, technology, and innovative green technologies, LA is well positioned to host a sustainable, fiscally responsible, and inspiring Olympic and Paralympic Games that will directly benefit our community, the International Olympic Committee, and the wider Olympic Games movement.
Los Angeles is a city that constantly reinvents itself by answering the question, “what is next?” Everywhere you look, LA offers something new: revitalized neighborhoods, the fastest-growing mass transit system in the country, new airport terminals upgraded by a $12 billion renovation, world-class cultural attractions, and state-of-the-art sports venues.
Over the last 30 years, LA has built a series of new venues and public spaces, providing for a rich array of venue choices that are experienced in hosting world-class events. Ninety-seven percent of the venues in the LA 2028 Games Concept either exist, are already planned as permanent venues by private investors, or will be temporary facilities.
Our Olympic Games heritage is a source of pride for Angelenos. The LA84 Foundation, the philanthropic legacy organization from 1984, has introduced more than 3 million children to Olympic and Paralympic sport over the last 30 years, trained 75,000 coaches, and invested $225 million in 2,200 community-based youth sports programs.
And our diverse community of Angelenos is united in its passion for the Games and desire to see them returned to the United States. The Los Angeles area is home to more than 18 million people representing the people and cultures of the world, and 83% of Angelenos are united in their desire to host the Games. A Los Angeles Games is not just a celebration of our diversity, it’s also a celebration of our unity – just like the Olympic Games movement itself.
With the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we look forward to bringing Angelenos, Americans, and the world closer together through the Olympic Games values of excellence, friendship, and respect. In doing so we seek to create a lasting legacy to benefit youth at home and across the globe for generations to come
HOW IS SECURITY COVERED AND WHO PAYS FOR IT?
Los Angeles is the world’s stage for successfully hosting major international events. From world championships in premier sports to the annual Academy Awards, Grammys and Emmys, Los Angeles’ experience with developing and executing robust security plans ranks among the top of all international cities.
Just as the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, LA 2028 anticipates that the federal government will lead security for the Games and provide needed resources. LA 2028 expects to be designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE). LAPD will sit at the top of a unified command model, with the United States Secret Service the lead federal agency in charge of event security; the FBI will lead on intelligence and counter terrorism; and FEMA will lead on incident response management.
