Melbourne International Film Festival 2020 Mission & Objective:
To present a celebratory event with an outstanding screening program of the best of new international cinema along with special retrospectives and tributes. To challenge and reveal discoveries in cinematic language, and provoke discussion and debate through a range of contextualised activities, including public panels, guest Q&As and In Conversation events and an international short film competition.
To screen works in optimum screening formats and be at the vanguard of new technology to engage the community with cinema.

- Feature
- Short – Fiction
- Short – Animation
- Short – Documentary
- Short – Experimental
Definition of Short and Feature:
- A film is considered a Short if it is 40 minutes or less.
- A film is considered a Feature if it is 41 minutes or more.
- A Short and a Feature shall individually be referred to as a “Film” unless otherwise specified to the contrary
MIFF 2020 Industry and Filmmaker:
Accelerator, a 4-day educational and inspirational skills development program for up-and-coming directors with short films screening at MIFF
MIFF 37ºSouth Market, a 4-day film financing market for producers with market-ready projects pitching to potential international and local co-financing partners
MIFF has an Academy, BAFTA and AACTA accredited short film competition. The winners of the top prizes in the competition become eligible for Oscar® consideration.
